ABC Hall of Famer Tommy Tuttle Dies at Age 75

GREENDALE, Wis.--American Bowling Congress Hall of Famer Tommy Tuttle of King, N.C., died Nov. 29 after a long battle with cancer. He was 75.

Elected to the ABC Hall of Fame in 1995, Tuttle was an accomplished competitor in the ABC Championships Tournament and on the pro tour in the 1960s.

He was a member of the Thelmal Lanes team that won the ABC Tournament Classic Team title in 1965. In addition, he had 10 other ABC Tournament top 10 finishes and held a 201 average for 25 ABC appearances.

Another one of Tuttle's memorable achievements was a second place finish in the 1964 All-Star Tournament in Dallas. He led the field by almost 400 pins, averaging 218 for 108 games, only to lose in the championship match to fellow ABC Hall of Famer Bob Strampe.

The three-time PBA Tour titlist earned two North Carolina Bowler of the Year honors (1964, 1965) and was a member of the Central Piedmont and North Carolina Bowling Association Halls of Fame.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1 at the Slate Funeral Home Chapel in King, and a private graveside service will be held later in the day at the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Walnut Cove, N.C. He is survived by his wife Virginia, son Terry, daughter Donna Tuttle-Olm and three grandchildren.
